48 rocks and minerals to discover – a great collection for learning about the three main types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. Each stone comes with a clear identification card, and thanks to a simple experiment, children can literally "grow" a mineral right at home.
Why kids will love this set
- 48 diverse and colorful stones: observe and learn to distinguish beautiful specimens such as rose quartz, red jasper, blue agate, or black obsidian.
- Identification card for each stone: the colorful illustrated guide contains a card for each of the 48 stones with its color, rock family, hardness, and a fun fact about its formation.
- Three types of rocks illustrated by famous examples: children will understand the difference between igneous (granite from Yosemite National Park in the USA), sedimentary (limestone cliffs in Étretat, France), and metamorphic rocks (marble from Carrara, Italy).
- Mohs hardness scale: using a fingernail, a fork, or another mineral, children can try to determine the hardness of a stone and place it on the hardness scale.
- Practical dolomite experiment: simply pour white vinegar over the stone, and in a few days, aragonite crystals will grow on it – a science experiment right on the kitchen table.
- Storage box included: all 48 stones can be neatly sorted and stored in the included box.
- Ages 8 and up – ideal for collecting: an educational activity for independent play or the whole family, a great gift for birthdays, Christmas, or for young naturalists.
